Суть его состоит в том, что два спортсмена, сидя друг против друга и упираясь ногами в специальный упор, должны вырвать палку из рук соперника или перетянуть его на свою сторону. Залог победы в мас-рестлинге - удержать равновесие и вывести из него соперника. Для этого существует движение ногами вдоль доски упора (спортсмены называют это "бегать по доске"), работа корпусом и кистями рук, когда палку выкручивают по горизонтали и вертикали (по правилам только до 90 градусов). Чтобы противник резким движением не вырвал палку в первые же секунды, важно до судейского свистка максимально натянуть руки. Можно даже перебросить соперника на свою сторону: для этого есть прием, когда спортсмен, упираясь ногами в доску упора и приподнимая центр массы тела, создает дополнительное рычаговое усилие.
