if health and fitness doesn't bring you outdoors into a moment similar enough in spirit to the one pictured here then i don't know what good all that sweating and commotion will ever do anyone. i suspect that if asked Huck Finn could tell us there ain't no health and fitness as fine as freedom, and where rules and schedules and planning come into play they begin immediately to tie a person down dreadful-like until they can't move even a finger. if ever you begin to get a wind of something like that coming, for the sake of your health and fitness you best get outdoors real quick and run fast as you can, swim a lake, climb a tree, explore a cave -- anything to stay natural and free.

PS: Loving my new 50mm lens...this was taken in a darkened room with a flashlight as the only light source, no camera flash. Straight out of the camera except for a very slight tweak on the curve to bring out the shadows.

Weigh-in day sucks in my book. But not when it's good news! I've been working my butt off (literally) since April and it isn't fun, but it really came down to a reduced-cal diet and exercise every single day (and there are definitely days when I don't...and days I indulge in yummyness lol :P). However I'm so close to my weight loss goal, I can taste it! ...And I think it tastes like cupcakes ;)

This was a hard one to capture, the only exercise I do these days is WiFit and that is rare due to ongoing traction on my neck :o( Then I thought of dental health....think I need a new toothbrush head tho !! Another black and white - think I may have a mono week !!

Since we brought the treadmill upstairs right in front of the tv and the front window, I spend a lot more time on it. It helps with losing weight and the Dr. said I should be proud of myself because it brought my blood pressure down. Now, the problem is finding something on tv that I can stand to watch while I tread.,

I took this as I love them and have a glass of pomegranate juice most days.

For many years now the Department of Health has been trying to drive home the "5-A-Day" message. Research proves that eating at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables each day has very real health benefits.Due to their nutritional and health benefits, it's recommended that fruit and vegetables form the basis of any diet, with a minimum intake of five portions each day, hence the phrase "5 A DAY"

As well as counting towards one of the five-a-day pomegranates have quite a few benefits health wise. Some of the nutrients inside are:
- Polyphenols which are very powerful and potent antioxidants that help to protect you from free radicals. These are unstable molecules that can damage your DNA and cell membranes.
When your cells and DNA gets damaged, it puts you at risk for all kinds of diseases including cancer. They help to protect you against cancer, heart disease, and other chronic conditions.
- Pomegranates are a great source of Vitamin C which helps you fight off colds and other infections.
- Vitamin K to help your blood clot properly.
- They are also rich in the mineral Potassium.
- They also have folic acid, iron, calcium, and fiber. All essential for good health!

I knew there was a good reason I like them :-)

NDU President's Cup 5K Challenge

On Friday, September 30, 2011, students from the Indutrial College of the Armed Forces and the National War College competed in a 5K race on the grounds of Fort McNair. The race was followed by a noncompetetive 5K run/walk that was open to all National Defense University students, faculty , and staff. The event finished with a picnic on the lawn in front of Roosevelt Hall.
